The Rollers 2 continued its run in the 2012 Saipan Rotary Club Youth Basketball League as it posted an impressive 59-55 victory over sister team Rollers 1 during their U20 division game last Monday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
Prince Factor exploded for 27 points to give Rollers 2 its fourth win in as many games, while the Rollers 1 dropped to an even 2-2 slate.
Hi-5 also holds a 2-2 card, following a 51-46 win over LD Prime (1-3) in last Tuesday's match.
The Rollers 2 was looking to make it five in a row yesterday against Kagman (0-2), while today's game will have the Oleai Ol'Aces (1-2) versus LD Prime at 5:30pm. Completing the U20 field are the second-ranked Proa (3-1), the Chalan Kanoa Saints (1-1) and RBC's Agape Torchbearers (0-4).
In last Monday's game, the Rollers 1's Erik Dela Rosa bulldozed his way to a baker's dozen in the opening period for their early 21-15 lead.
The Rollers 1 tried to spread the ball around, but its pesky little siblings weaseled back to a stalemate at the break, 33-all. Factor, JP Iglecias, and Dixon Kwon teamed up for Rollers 2's frontline, while CJ Morales pulled the strings at the point.
The formula continued to work through the third quarter as the Rollers 2 maintained control, 50-45. Factor scored eight points and he drew help from Iglecias' triple and Morales' four points.
Perhaps waiting to take it in the end, nobody stepped up for the Rollers 1 and the Rollers 2 was happy to seize the moment, as Factor delivered seven big points in the clutch for the win.
Factor's total output is just a basket shy of the combined points of Rollers 1's top scoring duo-Dela Rosa (17) and Ralph Francisco (12)
In last Tuesday's tiff, Lester Lapuz paced LD Prime in the first quarter with his six points and helped his team take a 12-6 favor.
However, HI-5 roared back with a 20-point burst in the second period to swipe the lead at halftime, 26-22. Frank Macahito rung in a three-ball for five points and six others chipped in on the surge.
Hi-5 then maintained control through a highly defensive third frame, 35-30, while Don Hockett made a couple of baskets and Macahito drained another trey.
The opposing offenses opened up in the fourth quarter, but Hi-5 managed to match its rival basket for basket as time winded down.
Carl Aldan and Lawrence Rollon scrambled for 10 markers in LD Prime's last stand, but ran out of time as Hi-5 point man Rey Cabaltica did a good job running the point in the late minutes.
Feria led Hi-5 in the final canto with seven points, including the final three that helped seal the deal, and he and Macahito teamed up for 23 points. Rollon carried LD Prime with 16 and received 10 from Lapuz.
