Saipan International School's White Geckos got off to a strong start in the 2012-2013 Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization Boys High School Volleyball League after grinding out a shutout victory against the Mount Carmel School's Knights last Thursday at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.
SIS White seized the first set from MCS, 25-16, and though the Knights still had some fight left in for the second set, SIS White still earned the nod, 25-17, before completing the sweep with a 15-6 victory in the final set.
In other results, the MHS Blue Dolphins and the Grace Christian Academy Eagles also arose victorious in the opening day, while SIS' Green Geckos were awarded a win via forfeiture over the Kagman High School's Ayuyus.
MHS Blue downed MHS Yellow in the opening set, 25-18, but the latter recovered in the second set, 25-21, to deny the former the outright win and force a deciding third set. However in the end, MHS Blue arose as the victor, taking the third set 15-12.
GCA posted an early lead against Saipan Southern High School for a 25-16 triumph in the first set and the Eagles went on to clinch the automatic win after a 25-14 win in the second set. Southern managed to avoid the shutout after capturing the third set, 15-13.
This season's MISO boys volleyball league is set up with a three-set game with the first two sets having a race to 25 contest (cap limit of 30), while the third set is race to 15 with no cap limit.
