Sherlyn Jones came away victorious in the Amigo Golf Club's September Ace of the Month tournament.
Jones topped the qualifier held at the Kingfisher Golf Links on Sept. 9, winning by nine strokes. She grossed an 81 and had a net 63 to beat 13 others.
Then in the Sept. 23 tournament at Coral Ocean Point, Jones kept her poise under pressure and scratched an even 90 raw score and 72 net. Her 135 net total was nine strokes ahead of runner-up Frank Sablan (144). Coming in at third was Dr. Larry Hocog (156), while Joe Tudela (160) placed fourth.
With Jones bagging the September Ace, only three spots are left in the Amigo Ace of Aces finale tournament. Jones joins January Ace Sablan Jr., February's Doll Yamagishi, March's Ben Jones Sr., April's Ben Jones Jr., May's Lorraine Babauta, June's Terry Guerrero, July's Felix Sasamoto, and August's Diding Hocog.
Sablan vowed to be the next Ace winner this month, but John Matsumoto was quoted as saying, “Not so fast Mr. Sablan, I may be 70 years old, but I still have what it takes to be Mr. October.”
Hocog and John Guerrero declined to comment and plan on letting their game do the talking on the course.
The Ace of Aces winner will be awarded a hefty cash prize in addition to overall bragging rights for the year. The winner also gets to have his/her name inscribed on the club's perpetual trophy, which he/she can keep until it is handed to next season's winner.
There are over 20 active Amigo members and new players are always welcome.
October's qualifying round is scheduled for tomorrow at Kingfisher and show time is set for 11am with a noon tee off.
