Saipan senatorial bets' debate

The Saipan Chamber of Commerce will host its Saipan senatorial candidate debates this Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe, Saipan.

A debate forum will be held for the candidates for the U.S. delegate seat on Oct. 17, 2012, at the same venue site between incumbent Gregorio Sablan and Dr. Ignacia Demapan.

This year's Saipan senatorial candidates are Illuminda Bermudes, Ray Yumul, Luis Crisostomo, and Ana Teregeyo.

The debate forum will commence at 7pm. The auditorium doors will be closed at 6:30pm, and will not be opened during the debate forum. All attending are asked to be sure to be seated before 6:30pm. There will be an intermission break where the audience will be allowed in and out of the auditorium.

This year's debate will have each candidate responding to randomly selected questions prepared by the Saipan Chamber of Commerce's Government Relations Committee, and finalized by the SCC Treasurer. These questions are held until the night of the debate, where no one will know the final questions to be posed to each candidate except one person.

Each candidate will be asked to answer two questions as the first responder. The other candidates will answer the same question, but be provided less time to do so. Each candidate will be given 5 minutes to issue a closing statement.

No campaign materials will be allowed to be posted within the Multi-Purpose Center. Audience rules are printed on the back of each $10 debate ticket, and forum rules will be provided at the outset of the debate.

Proceeds from the sale of tickets go toward covering the costs of the debates, with any remaining money going toward the SCC college scholarship program. (SCC)
