Tropical storm moves away from Marianas

Tropical Storm Prapiroon (22) moved slowly away from the Marianas region yesterday.

Packing maximum sustained winds of 50 miles per hour, Tropical Storm Prapirooon is moving westward at 6 mph, according to the Guam-based U.S. National Weather Service.

As of 1pm yesterday, the center of Tropical Storm Prapiroon was 610 miles north-northwest of Yap, 695 miles west-northwest of Guam, and 710 miles west-northwest of Saipan.

No watches or warnings are in effect in the Marianas.

Prapiroon is expected to intensify during the next 24 to 48 hours, but moving further westward today, Tuesday.

Prapiroon caused a monsoon surge west-northwest of the Marianas and this will continue across the Republic of Palau and Yap State into midweek. Palau and Yap are expected to experience heavy downpours through Tuesday night.
