Onyok Tamondong buried a pair of clutch three-pointers to lift Cybertech past LBT, 66-65, during their 45A division game in the Masters Basketball Federation of the NMI's 2012 Recreational Basketball League last Sunday at the Gilbert C. Gymnasium.
Cybertech fought from behind all day and despite its cold start, it heated up halfway through the game and somehow peaked at just the right time.
LBT was still ahead at the end of the third period, 50-45, before Jun Abedes and Rey Culala sparked Cybertech's recovery, teaming up for 9 points at the start of the final period. Tamondong then nailed the deadly pair of strikes from behind the arch, while Dante Tabora got a pair of pressure free throws to drop in between the pivotal treys to complete the victory.
LBT lost the match despite working out a 15-11 favor in the opening 10 minutes. Felix Palacios led LBT's good start with his 8 points and they constructed a 32-24 cushion at halftime, as Elmer Pineda and Teddy Bugay each chipped in 6 markers apiece in the second quarter.
Tabora scrambled for 9 points in the first two frames for Cybertech and was relieved to get some assistance from Abedes after the break. Actually, Abedes did more than just assist his pal, as he more or less carried Cybertech through the third quarter with his 13 points to slice the deficit to 5.
Abedes paced Cybertech with 24 points. Pineda also had 24 markers, but was held to 5 points in the fourth canto.
LBT 85, Fong's Bakery 70
LBT avoided a Sunday shutout, as it defeated Fong's Bakery in their 50A match.
LBT also started slow and was behind, 21-17, after the opening canto. Romy Bernardo and Romy Baterina combined for a baker's dozen out of the gate to give Fong's the early lead.
Alex Ocampo kept LBT in pursuit with his 8 points in the first quarter and added 10 in the second verse to help lock it at halftime, 38-all.
Ocampo kept his hot hands after the pause and tallied 9 more points in the third quarter, as LBT turned the tables on Fong's at the end of the third, 63-54.
Fong's went on to trade baskets with LBT in the fourth canto, allowing the latter to secure the 15-point win.
Ocampo led all scorers with his 33 points, while Bernardo paced Fong's on the short end with his 24.
