Soccer and outdoor basketball matches were suspended anew yesterday, as continues rain brought by Typhoon Prapiroon made the games venues unplayable.
The M-League called off the Division 2 tiff between MP United FC and Matansa FC at the soggy Oleai Sports Complex Field. Last Sunday, the league also called off the three matches set for Week 3 of the fall season. Wild Bill's were supposed to meet Korean Football Association on Saipan in the first Division 1 match last weekend, while Tan Holdings FC was set to collide against Paire in the second pairing. The third game was to feature Division 2 teams Kanoa Resort and Shirley's FC.
Week 3 matches will be rescheduled on a later date and M-League organizers is hoping that Mother Nature will cooperate this weekend to resume action at the Oleai pitch.
The CNMI has been experiencing heavy downpour since last week due to the Typhoon Prapiroon, which as of yesterday morning was moving 795 miles northwest of Yap, 810 miles north-northwest of Koror, and 995 miles west-northwest of Guam, according to the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam.
If the sun shows up this Sunday, M-League will go ahead with its Week 4 matches, featuring Paire and Wild Bill's at 2pm; KFAS and Inter Godfather's at 4pm; and MP United and Kanoa Resort at 6pm. Then on Wednesday, Matansa is set to duel Shirley's FC at 6:30pm.
Meanwhile, organizers of the 2012 DLX/Gualo Rai Invitational Basketball League were also forced to suspend three playoff games last Wednesday night.
The playoff match of Pool B top finisher Anjie's Boys against Pool A No.4-ranked and defending champion KFC/Taco Bell at 6:30pm will be played this Saturday at the same time. Also set for this weekend are the continuation of the Gualo Rai-Blue Haus tiff after the first match and the third game between Pool A top placer San Antonio and Pool B last qualifier QQ Rent A Car. Winners of these matches will join Zhaila's All-Starz in the semifinals.
Gualo Rai and Blue Haus will only play the fourth quarter of their rained-out match last Monday night with the former ahead, 59-47. The game was suspended after the third canto as heavy rains fell at the Gualo Rai Basketball Court. Zhaila's was fortunate to complete its playoff assignment, beating LD Prime in the first game last Monday night, 95-82.
