Persistent rain triggers flooding

Persistent rains last week triggered minor flooding in several areas on Saipan.

Rains caused almost zero visibility on Middle Road, Beach Road, and other roads even in daytime, prompting motorists to drive slowly Friday. No major vehicular accident has been reported as of press time.

The shoulder of Beach Road in some areas in Garapan, San Antonio, Chalan Kanoa, and Susupe were flooded yesterday afternoon. Opposite lanes were even flooded in some areas of Beach Road Garapan.

According to the U.S. National Weather Service in Guam, divergent upper-level winds associated with an upper-level low convergence are triggering scattered showers and a few thunderstorms near the trough axis over the CNMI.

On Thursday morning, rocks, trees, and other debris brought by runoff littered the road near the Shell Gas Station in Dandan. Department of Public Works' crew immediately cleaned up the area.

A large west to northwest swell generated by Typhoon Prapiroon will produce hazardous surf across the Marianas early this week.
