New tropical disturbance triggers more rain showers

More rain poured in again yesterday in the northern part of the CNMI as a tropical disturbance was formed northwest of Saipan.

According to the U.S. National Weather Service in Guam, the tropical disturbance is expected to bring numerous showers and isolated thunderstorms to Saipan, Tinian, Farallon De Medinilla, Anatahan, and Sarigan.

NWS and Emergency Management Office said flooding occurred yesterday during the heaviest rain especially near Lake Susupe on Saipan.

NWS and EMO expected the rain to become light yesterday afternoon as the disturbance moved farther away to the northwest.

As of yesterday morning, NWS said the disturbance is slowly intensifying and is now the subject of a tropical cyclone formation alert from the Joint Typhoon Center.

Meanwhile, NWS said hazardous surf of 8 to 10 feet caused by swells from distant Typhoon Prapiroon will continue on west and northwest facing reefs through at least Wednesday.
