The Marianas High School Lady Dolphins ransacked the Lady Ayuyus of Kagman High School, 74-25, during the varsity game in the 2012-2013 Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization Basketball League last Friday at the MHS Gymnasium.
The defending champions could not wait to finally get on the court after getting a win via forfeiture against the Mount Carmel School Lady Knights (1-1) during the opening day and the Lady Dolphins did not disappoint in their first floor appearance, sending a stiff message to their competitors with the rousing win. The Lady Ayuyus remain winless after three tries.
The Lady Dolphins attacked the Ayuyus early to hammer a sturdy 25-3 lead. Speedy point guard Jeraldine Castillo led MHS' strong start, scoring 11 points, and also fed center Rachel Abrams, who added 8 points.
Anna Ada tried to get things going for Kagman in the second quarter, but the Lady Dolphins' teeth were watering from the get-go and pulled away at halftime, 43-11. Glorily Williams, Lahaina Gatchalian, and Charlene Lizardo teamed up in MHS' second wave.
Then in the second half, Kagman's chances for a big comeback remained a long shot, as Ada was held to two baskets, while MHS had a swift ball movement both in transition and at the halfcourt set to facilitate a wide open 61-19 separation, going into the final canto.
The Lady Dolphins went on to get a basket out of every player on their roster in the fourth quarter to complete their demolition of Kagman.
Abrams was untouchable around the basket throughout the game and tallied a game-high 19 points, while Castillo and Williams combined for 23. Although Ada had a rough day at the office, she still led Kagman with 14 points.
Meanwhile, MHS also dominated the junior varsity matchup, 41-11, to join Saipan Southern High School in the win column. Kagman fell to a 0-2 record
The Junior Lady Dolphins whipped up a three-possession favor, 15-6, in the first quarter, off the 9 points of Friendly Pena and Diane Pablo. MHS then bring the defense and held its opponents to just one basket in the second period, while Pena hung up an 8-point string on the other end to move the Lady Dolphins further ahead at intermission, 25-8.
MHS continued to play tough defense after the break and shut out the Lady Ayuyus in the third frame, while the Lady Dolphins' bench chucked on another 10 points to coast to the win.
Pena finished with 13 points, while Pablo chipped in 8. Melody Wasisang came away with 6 markers for Kagman.
