Tourist dive boat burglarized

Even boats are not safe from burglars nowadays.

A tourist dive boat parked at Smiling Cove Marina was burglarized over the weekend and $4,500 worth of dive equipment were stolen.

Police officer Jason Tarkong said yesterday that the boat's captain discovered the break-in when he was preparing to launch the vessel on Saturday at 11:40am.

Tarkong said the burglar or burglars stole two BC dive jackets, two regulators, two mouthpieces, four octopus dive hoses, one orange flare gun with six flares, and a first aid kit. The items are of Korean brand.

Tarkong said the suspect or suspects managed to enter the boat by breaking the padlock on the door.

Investigators believe that the burglary happened at nighttime as the items were last seen the day before when they were secured after working hours.

“The Department of Public Safety and Crime Stoppers need your help. Please contact the Crime Stoppers hotline at 234-7272 should you want to remain anonymous,” said Tarkong, who is also coordinator for the Crime Stoppers.
