Many motorists who want to renew their driver's licenses and car registrations are wondering when the Department of Public Safety's Bureau of Motor Vehicle is going to resume operations.
BMV has been closed since last week. Last Tuesday, Oct. 9, DPS announced that BMV will be closed until Monday, Oct. 15. At the time, DPS explained that the closure was due to inclement weather and technical issues, which has delayed infrastructure and security improvement work at BMV.
On Monday, Saipan Tribune saw some people going to BMV, only to be greeted by a big “BMV close” sign at its parking lot.
“They said they are going to open Monday, but its still closed. It's a waste of our gas and time to come here only to learn BMV is still closed. They should announce it through the media, as simple as that,” a visibly disappointed motorist said.
Police officer Jason Tarkong said the upgrade at BMV is still ongoing.
“There were unexpected factors that led to technical difficulties in meeting the projected time frame,” he said.
Tarkong said BMV will remain closed until further notice.
