The Commonwealth Football League's Sharks are putting on a happy hour fundraiser on Oct. 27 at Club V in Kanoa Resort.
Proceeds will go toward the team's trip to Manila, Philippines where it will play against the American Football Federation of the Philippines' Punishers on Nov. 10.
The fundraiser is scheduled to start at 7pm and will include a raffle drawing, in addition to food, music and discounted drinks throughout the evening. Tickets cost $15 per person, which entitles each holder to a free drink and a chance to win prizes.
The Sharks are bringing around 30 of their core players in the Philippines to take on the Punishers. The team has been practicing since late July and began dressing in pads last month, however, it has yet to suit up for a real game, or even a full scrimmage. Still, the Sharks have been working hard at practice, four days a week, and are showing significant improvement every day in preparation for their debut.
The Punishers, on the other hand, are a new addition to the AFFP and have played four exhibition games this year since April and won three of them. The group twice downed the Hong Kong Cobras and shut out another challenger, branded the Beijing Guardians, but fell to a select group from Guam's Miller-Lite Football League.
Meanwhile, the Sharks will hold more fundraisers as they are still in need of additional equipment, such as proper footwear, football pants, and leg pads, and materials to prepare the CPA Field for some scrimmages and the highly anticipated Dec.1 date with Guam's MLFL All-Stars.
Any interested donors, sponsors, and supporters who want to help the Sharks, whether it is by lending equipment, or selling any unused equipment at a discounted price, can contact CFL's John Blanco at johnsblanco@gmail.com.
