The RMS Spartan Rebels edged the CTSI Logistics' Hoops, 41-38, in the finals of Tan Holdings 40th Anniversary Sports Fest Open Basketball Tournament last Friday at the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium.
The champion team is composed of Edwin Camacho, Ham Hambros, Ben Lisua, Frank Mettao, Omar Nawas, Ray Norita, Trevor Ogumoro, and Rodney Sacramento.
RMS advanced into the finals first after breezing past Century Hotel, 41-25, while CTSI sweated it out against Chambre Bar, 38-34, to get the second finals ticket.
In the one-game finale, Trevor Ogumoro got his game working right away, as he tallied 10 points in the first half to lift RMS to a 28-19 lead. Sixth man Rodney Sacramento also made contributions to RMS just before intermission, while Walter Mendoza and Maverick Itibus led CTSI with 5 markers apiece.
Ogumoro nailed a three-pointer at the start of the second half to put his team in prime position to take the win, and soon after Sacramento and Ham Hambros obliged with a pair of buckets to clinch the top prize.
Ogumoro's 13 points led all scorers, while Itibus and JR Barrios had 9 each for CTSI.
In the battle for third place, Chambre Bar slipped past Century Hotel, 40-38.
Leo Galarse paced Chambre in the consolation match, scoring 14 points.
The Top 4 teams went on to win sporting goods gift certificates in sums of $400, $300, $200 and $100, accordingly.
Tan Holdings put on the event, free of charge, in celebration of its 40 years of doing business in the region. Other components of the sports festival included a mountain bike race and a youth baseball tournament with soccer and bowling on queue.
