The NMI Judiciary and the Judicial Council will host an investiture ceremony for CNMI Supreme Court Chief Justice Alexandro C. Castro on Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, at 10:30am in the Supreme Court Courtroom. The public is invited.
Gov. Benigno R. Fitial nominated Castro to become the Commonwealth's fourth chief justice on Sept. 13, 2012. Castro served as the acting chief justice following the retirement of Chief Justice Miguel S. Demapan in September 2011. The acting chief justice appeared before the Senate's Committee on Executive Appointment and Government Investigation on Oct. 10, 2012. Following the committee's recommendation, the full Senate voted unanimously to confirm Castro as chief justice. He was duly commissioned that same day, Oct. 11, 2012; Fitial administered the oath of office.
Before his ascension to the Supreme Court bench on July 9, 1998, Castro served the Commonwealth as Superior Court presiding judge (1993-1998); Superior Court associate judge (1989-1993); and CNMI attorney general (1986- 1989). (NMI Judiciary)
