Karidat cancels golf tourney but raffle is still a go

Karidat Social Services cancelled its fundraising golf tournament scheduled on Oct. 6, but executive director Angie V. Guerrero said the social services agency will still carry on with the tournament raffle draw.

Guerrero said in an interview Thursday that the cancellation of the event scheduled two Saturdays ago was due to inclement weather.

She said she is still consulting the board on whether the annual fundraiser will proceed before the year ends or by 2013, given that there are a number of events and activities relating to the holidays that have been lined up for the community.

“We have to check the venue if they can accommodate us,” added Guerrero.

The Karidat board is composed of newly elected president Esther Fleming, vice president Joe Ayuyu, secretary Marcie Tomokane, and treasurer Josephine Sablan.

Guerrero emphasized that the raffle draw is still on and that they anticipate drawing the winning tickets before Thanksgiving on Nov. 22.

“Anybody who wants to help Karidat by buying raffle tickets, we'd really appreciate that,” said Guerrero.

For only $1 per ticket, buyers will have a chance to win any of the exciting prizes donated by various sponsors and donors from the community.

Tickets are available for sale at the Karidat office in Chalan Kanoa.

“We really appreciate the help we receive from all our donors in the community. We have received a lot of responses. Some people have been really generous. I really admire their spirit of giving because you know, these are really hard times but the businesses and different organizations somehow are always willing to help out to alleviate some of the problems we have here,” said Guerrero.
