Gov. Benigno R. Fitial nominated Joey Patrick San Nicolas to serve as attorney general during a 3pm news briefing on Capital Hill today.
This is the first time in CNMI history that an attorney from Tinian has been nominated by a governor to the AG post.
Fitial, during the news briefing, said he asked San Nicolas to serve as AG within days after former attorney general Ed Buckingham resigned for the second time in August.
The appointment comes two months since Buckingham’s controversial departure from the CNMI, and two weeks before the Nov. 6 midterm elections.
San Nicolas’ appointment needs the advice and consent of the Senate.
More details to follow.
