All schools invited to tourism summit on Oct. 30

Math students at Kagman High School had the opportunity to win prizes during the Oct. 18, 2012, presentation of the Marianas Tourism Education Council. In picture are Allan Aguon, teacher William “Bill” Sizemore, MTEC chair Vicky Benavente, Tracy Crisostomo, Tracy Pelep, and Marianas Visitors Authority Community Projects specialist Frank Tudela, and other students. (MTEC) The Marianas Tourism Education Council is inviting all schools with MY WAVE clubs to join the MTEC/MY WAVE Tourism Summit on Oct. 30, 2012.

The event is part of the council's ongoing educational outreach to public and private schools students on the importance of tourism and their role in the visitor industry. This year's summit will be held from 9am to 1:30pm at Charley's Cabaret, Pacific Islands Club Saipan.

“The guest speakers will have the opportunity to influence and guide the students who are attending the tourism summit” said MTEC chair Vicky Benavente. “Whether they discuss airlines or hotels, we have to continue teaching about the importance of tourism in the CNMI.”

Individuals and organizations interested in joining MTEC may contact MVA Community Projects manager Martin Duenas at mduenas@mymarianas.com or (670) 664-3210. The summit is funded by the Office of Insular Affairs through a grant awarded with the assistance of the Office of Delegate Gregorio Killili C. Sablan to the Marianas Visitors Authority. The summit is also sponsored by the CNMI Public School System. (MTEC)
