The Kagman High School's Lady Ayuyus chased down Mount Carmel School's Lady Knights in the fourth quarter to run off with a 59-51 victory in their varsity division game in the 2012-2013 Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization Girls Basketball League last Wednesday at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.
Kagman trailed at the end of the first three quarters before making a rally in the fourth canto to avenge its loss to Mt. Carmel earlier in the season and improve to a 2-3 record. The Lady Knights dropped to a 1-3 slate.
Like the pair's last meeting, their second duel remained very close for the majority of the match, but this time, the Lady Ayuyus did not fade down the homestretch and willed their way to victory.
Kaylani Lebria stormed out of the gate with a 13-point tear after the tip to give the Lady Knights an early 21-14 favor. However, Anna Ada came out for Kagman in the second quarter and her 12 points put the Lady Ayuyus back to within a basket at midpoint, 29-31.
Michelle Kautz stepped in after the pause and helped Lebria, as the former scored 8 points to stretch the Lady Knights' lead to 6, 43-37, heading into the final period.
Ada scrambled for all 8 of the Lady Ayuyus' markers in the third quarter and added 8 more in the fourth. To Ada's relief, she got a couple of baskets from Kelsey Lizama, Anzuko Halstead, and Janet Kaipat in the final canto, while the Lady Knights went cold on the other end.
At the start of the payoff period, Kagman's foursome each netted a shot to knot the score at 45-all, just over midway through the frame, and it was all Lady Ayuyus from there, as Halstead and Ada cashed in on breakaway layups to complete their come-from-behind win.
Lebria scrambled for 8 points in the final minutes, but the rest of the Lady Knights could not catch any good bounces off the rim.
Halstead's 10 markers helped push the Lady Ayuyus over the hump, but it was Ada's tremendous 38-point performance that carried the group through the grind. Lebria turned in 25 on the short end.
Meanwhile, the league's regular season wraps up this Wednesday, while the double-elimination playoff tournament will be held on Nov. 16 and 17. If Rota and Tinian's representative squads appear, they will automatically be issued the third and fifth seeds on the bracket via a random drawing.

MCS 51- Lebria 25, M. Kautz 10, Demapan 6,Taylor 6, Wu 4.
Scoring by quarters: 14-21, 29-31, 37-43, 59-51.
