Marianas High School's Lady Dolphins arose victorious over the Kagman High School' Lady Ayuyus in both the varsity and junior varsity games in the 2012-2013 Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization Girls Basketball League last Friday at the MHS Gymnasium.
The Lady Dolphins extended their streak to five after steamrolling KHS (2-4) in the varsity division, 70-39, while MHS' junior squad started its own run after capping its third straight win with a 35-9 thrashing of the Lady Ayuyus.
The Lady Dolphins rustled up an early 15-7 lead in the opening quarter of the varsity game after getting a pair of baskets from Rachel Abrams and Jeraldine and Jeralyn Castillo. They then catapulted ahead at the half, 37-17, as Abrams and Glorily WiIliams hooked up for a dozen and the Castillo sisters chipped in 4 apiece in the second quarter.
MHS keyed on KHS mainstay Anna Ada from the tip and limited her to just two baskets in the first half. Jeromalyn Santos scrambled for 8 markers to try to fill the void, but Kagman had fallen in a big hole at midpoint.
KHS was unable to gain any ground in the third quarter, as the count shifted to 54-30, heading into the final period, and MHS never looked back. Williams racked up 20 points for MHS, while Santos led KHS with a meager 10.
In the junior pairing, MHS started slow but snowballed its 6-2 favor into a 21-4 margin at the half. Dianne Pablo fronted the Lady Dolphins with 8 points in the first two frames and received support from her six teammates.
After limiting Kagman to just one basket in the first two periods, MHS's defense remained tough after the break and held its foe scoreless in the third quarter to move further ahead, 31-4, heading into final canto.
The Lady Dolphins' reserves took the floor for the majority of the final period, as KHS managed to surpass its output from the previous three frames in the fourth quarter, but still lost the match.
Pablo and Friendly Joy Pena teamed up for 18 points for MHS, while Trinalyn Santos managed 6 for Kagman.
The season continues today at 4:30pm with Saipan Southern High School's Lady Manta Rays (2-2) taking on the Lady Knights of Mount Carmel School (1-4).
