Drunk cop hits woman with marked police car, flees scene

An alleged drunk police officer driving a marked police's vehicle struck and injured a woman who was walking on the side of a road near Northern Marianas College and fled the scene on Saturday afternoon.

Sources identified the suspect as Police Officer 2 Martin Kapileo, who is currently assigned at the Department of Public Safety's logistics.

DPS had yet to release information to the media as of press time yesterday.

Sources, however, disclosed that Kapileo was subsequently arrested for auto-pedestrian hit and run, driving while under the influence of alcohol, and misuse of government vehicle.

Sources said Kapileo engaged in a highspeed chase involving a witness and police officers through San Jose, Susupe and north on Beach Road.

Sources said the victim was walking on the side of the road near Top Store when a DPS truck driven by Kapileo struck her.

Kapileo, however, allegedly continued driving the marked DPS vehicle. A witness dialed 911 and followed Kapileo until other police officers joined in the pursuit and pulled him over by Quarter Master Road.

The victim was taken to the Commonwealth Health Center for laceration on the head.

The vehicle was taken to DPS Central in Susupe for processing.

Kapileo was off-duty at the time. He is expected to be taken to Superior Court today, Monday, for bail hearing.
