Pacesetters stretch lead in fall league

A Matansa FC player tries to kick the ball back inside the pitch during their game against Paire FC in the girls U15 division of the NMIFA fall league last Saturday at the Hopwood Junior High School Field. (Roselyn B. Monroyo) Paire, MP United, and Matansa strengthened their hold to the spot spots in their respective divisions in the 2012 NMIFA Youth Fall League after besting separate opponents last Saturday.

In the boys U18, Paire remained in first place after crushing Matansa FC, 11-1, at the Oleai Sports Complex. The division leader now has a 5-0-1 win-draw-loss card and 15 points in the team standings, five markers ahead of the second-running Tan Holdings FC (3-1-1).

Ethan Dickinson had a hat-trick for Paire, while Joel Fruit, Timothy Tawanpiy, and Thomas Lee had two each to team up in their demolition of Matansa. Sean Perez gave Matansa (0-0-4) its lone goal in last weekend's match.

Tan Holdings 8, MP United-1 2

The other U18 game also had a lopsided result with Tan Holdings FC whipping MP United-1.

In last Friday's second game in the boys U15 at the Oleai pitch, MP United shut out Shirley's.

MP United retained its perfect record (5-0-0) and extended its lead against Matansa (2-2-0) to 7 points, as the former has already collected 15 against the latter's 8. Shirley's is in fourth place in the five-team field with its dismal 0-1-4 card.

Brian Lee and Scott Kim had twin goals each in MP United's fifth win, while Greg Sablan, Jesus Quitano, John Taisacan, and Daniel Lim contributed one apiece.

Matansa 2, Paire 2

Sean Perez then equalized with a goal in the 49th minute and Matansa went on to take a 2-1 lead after Yoshi Ray Mafnas found the back of the net in the 62nd minute.

Ivan Seo tied the game anew with his goal in the 70th and the game remained in a deadlock as both teams hung tough on defense in the remaining 20 minutes of the match.

GIRLS U15

Matansa 1, Paire 0

Matansa kept its distance against Shirley's FC after edging Paire in the first game in the girls U15 division at the Hopwood Junior High School last Saturday.

Maile Aldrich scored the winning goal in the second half for Matansa, which owns a spotless 4-0-0 slate for a 2-point lead over Shirley's FC (3-1-1-).
