Patrick Diaz appointed Clerk of the Superior Court

Presiding Judge Robert C. Naraja has appointed Patrick Villagomez Diaz to the position of Clerk of Court of the Commonwealth Superior Court effective Nov. 18, 2012. Presiding Judge Robert C. The Clerk of Court is responsible for the management of the trial court’s case flow processes and the daily operations of the Office of the Clerk of Court on Rota, Saipan, and Tinian.

Diaz earned his B.A. in Justice Studies from Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona, in 1993. Certified as a mediator by the CNMI Supreme Court in 2001, Diaz also holds over 125 combined training and certification credits in social science, child behavior, and court management services. Diaz graduated from Marianas High School on Saipan, in 1986.

Diaz’s employment history began with Karidat Social Services in April 1994 where he served as a youth program coordinator until September 1997. He joined the CNMI Judiciary in September 1997 as the Family Court coordinator for the Family Court Division of the Superior Court. Since November 1994 up to his recent appointment, he served as the Family Court manager and represented the Family Court Division in various collaborative task forces and inter-agency justice programs involving the trial court. Under Diaz’s leadership, the Family Court Division was honored by the National Criminal Justice Association as the recipient of the 2010 National Justice Association Outstanding Justice Program Award for “best practice” evidence based program.

Diaz’s tenure with the courts brought him under the leadership of former presiding judges Alexandro C. Castro and Edward Manibusan, and, all the past and recent associate judges assigned to the Family Court docket.
