Thursday was a special day for a third-grader at San Vicente Elementary School.
Senior Airman Anthony Cruz, who is serving in the U.S. Air Force, paid a visit to the school to thank a student who had written a letter to him as part of last month's CNMI Operation Home Front Support. Cruz, accompanied by his father Ray Cruz, stood in class to speak to some students about how honored he is to receive a letter and package of goods from Saipan.
Cruz said he is happy to return home for a visit and is most especially happy to return to SVES, the school he also attended many years ago. He shared how grateful he is to the people of the CNMI for the great things they do for those serving in the military.
“Being away from home is what I feel all the time, but receiving goods from home makes it the best Christmas no matter where you are,” he added.
Cruz is currently deployed and serving in South Korea. He is back on island to celebrate the holidays with his family. His father stated that Cruz arrived on island on Dec. 20 at 3am and “has been waiting for this moment. .This is what my son wanted to do.”
When asked what message he has on behalf of all the men and women serving in the military, Cruz stated, “Any little thing makes a big difference. We appreciate all the support from home.”
