Fake Madrid tops Spencer United

Fake Madrid's Sun Joon Tenorio, right, avoids contact with Spencer United's Joel Gonzales as they battle for possession during the first half of their game in the U12 co-ed futsal league last Wednesday at the TSL Sports Complex. (Saipan Tribune) Sun Joon Tenorio powered Fake Madrid to a 7-3 win over Spencer United at the resumption of the SSS U12 Co-ed Christmas Futsal Tournament last Wednesday at the TSL Sports Complex.

Tenorio drilled five goals in Fake Madrid's fourth win in five games, helping his squad stay on top of the four-team field. Spencer United is still winless after five matches despite a gallant stand against Fake Madrid in the first half.

The first 15 minutes of the Fake Madrid-Spencer United tiff ended in standoff, 2-2. Visiting Joel Gonzales, who is on island from Oregon for the short holiday break, canned the pair of goals for Spencer United in the first half, matching Tenorio's output.

Tenorio then opened the scoring for Fake Madrid in the second half and added two more while his teammates Logan Mister, Lyka Sally, and Edwin Kim chipped in one apiece for the easy win.

Gonzales was shutdown in the final half, as although he made several attempts, Fake Madrid goalie Kennedy Izuka was there for the big saves. Fake Madrid defenders also hounded Gonzales, putting a body on the visiting player every time he started to attack.

With Gonzales a marked man in the second half, only Eunsyu Hahn scored for Spencer United in the final 15 minutes of the match.

Meanwhile, the other game last Wednesday had Astig Futsal and San Antonio Footloose engage in a scoreless draw.

With the draw, Astig Futsal retained the No. 2 spot in the team standings with its 3-1-1 slate, while San Antonio is still at third spot with its 2-2-1 mark.

Meanwhile, the four participating teams were scheduled to complete their third round assignments last night with Astig Futsal set to duel Fake Madrid at 5:30pm and Spender United slated to meet San Antonio Footloose at 6:15pm.

All four squads will march into the playoff round with Fake Madrid guaranteed the top seeding and a likely semis pairing against Spencer United. Astig Futsal and San Antonio Footloose will face in the other semis duel tonight and winners of the two matches will battle for the title tomorrow at 6pm after the consolation game at 5pm.
