Police have arrested the two men who allegedly assaulted a teenager who later died after they left him lying on a highway in central Garapan where two vehicles subsequently struck and ran over him.
A source disclosed that police arrested early yesterday morning the two suspects: Herman Fitial, 34, and Felix Kileleman Jr., 19.
Department of Public Safety spokesman Jason Tarkong confirmed that police investigation led to the arrest of Fitial and Kileleman.
As of yesterday, the suspects had yet to be taken to the Superior Court for a bail hearing.
Tarkong also disclosed new information that the gray van that fled the scene after hitting the victim could possibly be a gray or black Chevrolet Astro van and not a Toyota Sienna van, as police earlier reported.
Tarkong said the van's driver is still at large, while the van could not be located. He appealed to the public for assistance in identifying the driver and finding the van.
Police said the victim, a 19-year-old male, was pronounced dead at the Commonwealth Health Center Wednesday at 3:15am. He sustained several deep lacerations on the right side of the head, lacerations on his lower lip, and bruises on the face. He had a fractured femur and pelvis and had internal bleeding.
A source identified the victim as Jeff Kiauol Keju, a resident of As Lito.
Police said that two men chased the victim on Tuesday night and caught him on the outer bound lane of the highway in front of LJ Market.
After assaulting the victim, the two suspects fled on foot, leaving the victim lying on the outer northbound lane of the highway.
Later, a van, first described as a gray Toyota Sienna 2011 or 2012 model, which was traveling north on the outer lane, struck the victim, dragging him about 50 feet. The van did not stop.
After the van sped away, a Toyota Hilux 4x4 pickup truck later ran over the victim. The driver, a 22-year-old male, stopped and helped the victim.
An ambulance brought the victim to CHC, where he was later pronounced dead.
