The Department of Public Safety's Thief Apprehension Select Coalition arrested over the weekend two men, including Mohammed Jahangir Miah, for allegedly engaging in buying stolen items.
DPS spokesman Jason Tarkong said TASC operatives also searched Triple Star Recycling Center in As Perdido and CGD Pawnshop in Chalan Kanoa where stolen items such as 17 scuba tanks were recovered.
Tarkong said TASC agents followed up on leads that led to Sky Garage in San Jose where they searched the premises and recovered stolen items.
Agents arrested Miah and Garry Lee Evilsizer in San Antonio during the recovery operation.
Tarkong said Miah, 38, was arrested for receiving stolen property, while Evilsizer, 63, for receiving stolen property and illegal possession of a controlled substance and drug trafficking.
The officer said TASC agents along with members of the CNMI Interagency Financial Crimes, and Drug Enforcement Task Force conducted the joint operation.
Details of the arrest of Miah and Evilsizer will be made available later.
Sources said Miah was arrested for receiving a stolen government video camera, while Evilsizer was arrested for receiving a stolen laptop and computer desktop. He allegedly used cash and marijuana to pay for the stolen goods.
Bail was set at $31,000 for Evilsizer and $5,000 for Miah.
“We will continue to aggressively pursue burglary, robbery, theft and arson cases in the CNMI,” said acting DPS commissioner Ambrosio Ogumoro, adding that more arrests are forthcoming.
