It Don't Matter notches 2 wins in Holiday Hoops

Super Stars' Chevy Alipio avoids a hole in the ground on a fast break during last Saturday's RBC Holiday Hoops Tournament U13 matchup against Evolution at the Garapan Basketball Court. (Walter Cepeda Sutherland) U21 age division's It Don't Matter got a pair of victories in the Rollers Basketball Club's Holiday Hoops youth basketball tournament at the Garapan Basketball Court.

It Don't Matter defeated the Rollers, 59-36, last Thursday and snuck past the Sluwie Poppin' Animals, 45-44, on Saturday after the U13 division's Evolution and the Super Stars settled for an 18-all draw in last weekend's action.

Meanwhile, other results from Thursday's U21 triple feature include the SP Animals besting the Blazers, 49-39, and the Lil' Rollers toppling the Agape Torchbearers, 44-23.

The U15 division opener was scheduled to commence as part of last night's round of games, however in case of bad weather organizers may hold games tomorrow, Thursday, and Saturday in order to finish on time.

Saturday's U21 matchup was a 19-all deadlock at the half as It Don't Matter's Shane Deleon Guerrero-Diaz and SP Animals' Josh Lizama led their respective squads with 6 points apiece.

SP Animals' Jimmy Brel delivered 6 markers in the second frame to finish in double figures and teammate John Santy fired 10 checks in the clutch, but it was not enough to hold off their rivals.

It Don't Matter's shooting guard Ichitaro Faisao led the way with 11 points and received 14 more in support from a handful of buddies in the second half to seal the deal.

Faisao finished with a game-high 13, while SP Animals' Brel and Santy each turned 10.

In the prior U13 game, the Super Stars worked out a 10-6 edge in the first half thanks primarily to Chevy Alipio who accounted for all but one basket.

Evolution's Ylac Caracut managed 5 points early on and then kicked it into high gear after the break, spearheading a late rally for a dozen more, though both teams ran out of time.

Alipio added another 7 to her total for a team-high 15 points, but Caracut's last stand perhaps stole the show by one-upping his rival by a basket.

Then in last Thursday's middle feature, It Don't Matter established a stout 29-16 margin at midpoint largely from the three-headed monster of Deleon Guerrero Diaz, Faisao, and Jason Palacios who combined for 20 points.

It Don't Matter's defense took it from there and prevented the Rollers from finding any rhythm, aside from a 10-point explosion by Erick Dela Rosa.

Over on the other end, It Don't Matter's Ben Diaz, L.J. Hemley, and Sheen Metran came off the bench and assisted Deleon Guerrero-Diaz to bring home the win. The latter led his crew with 14 points, while the bench trio bagged three buckets apiece. Rollers' Ralph Francisco topped the boxscore with 15 points.

In Thursday's curtain raiser, the SP Animals built a 26-18 advantage over the Blazers at intermission with a very balanced attack.

Dave Camacho led his team with 5 points, while the Blazers' Jelen Jefferson carried his band as the only player to sink more than one shot.

The latter made an 8-point splash in the opening period, but was kept in check in the payoff period.

SP Animals continued to find the open man through the second half and brushed off a 13-point rally cry from Blazers' Tim Taguchi and Luizi Reyes. Jefferson headed the scoring chart with a dozen, while Travis Eughbanks led SP Animals with10.

In Thursday's final match, the Lil' Rollers doubled-up the Agape Torchbearers, 27-14, on the hot hands of C.J. Morales who buried two 3-pointers and matched Agape's group effort.

The eventual victors slowed the pace in the second half and had little trouble coasting to the win. Morales led Lil' Rollers with 18 points, while Agape's Joe Yang scrambled for 9 on the losing end.

Games were played under two 20-minutes halves with running clock.
