NEWS BRIEFS - Jan. 9, 2012

Power outage on Saturday

The Commonwealth Utilities Corp. has scheduled a power interruption on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, from 8:30am to 12:30pm to replace a rotting power line on Dandan road directly in front of the Dandan Elementary School.

The purpose of the interruption is to de-energize the primary lines to allow the CUC line crew to safely perform system maintenance. In addition, another crew will replace a rotted power pole in the upper Dandan Homestead area near Gatbo Ave. Water services may be effected in the area during the power interruption; however, all services should be restored after the powers is re-energized.

Areas affected include Kiya 1 (2nd partial) from the former San Vicente Round House south on Dandan Road to the Flame Tree Road intersection and east toward the Hawaiian Rock Quarry to the Obyan areas.

Because of the scale of the work that will be performed, travelers are asked to take alternate routes or to exercise caution when driving through the affected areas. (CUC)

Air Force training on Farallon de Medinilla

SANTA RITA, Guam-The U.S. Air Force will conduct training on the island of Farallon de Medinilla from Jan. 9 to 11, from 9am to 4:30pm.

The general public-especially fishermen, commercial pilots, and marine tour operators-are advised to stay clear from the area during the times and dates indicated.

The general location of the training on the island of Farallon de Medinilla training area will be on a 10-nautical mile radius on all quadrants. Farallon de Medinilla plays a special and unique role in national defense because its location provides access frequency that supports established training requirements. In addition, the air and sea space in the Farallon provides sufficient room for the many different attack profiles necessary to replicate training opportunities in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
