The United Filipino Organization is inviting all female teenagers of Filipino descent to join the Ms. Pusong Pinoy beauty pageant, which will highlight the group's Valentine community event.
Now on its second year, Pusong Pinoy is patterned after UFO's annual signature events that mark special occasions, such as Pistang Pinoy in celebration of Philippine Independence Day every June and Paskong Pinoy in observance of Christmas in December.
“The event will serve as a venue for UFO members to come together once again in spirit of bayanihan [communal effort] and teamwork. We promise that the event will be fun-filled and will feature live entertainment,” said Annamae Adaza, president of the umbrella network of Filipino groups in the CNMI.
The pageant is open to women 16 to 20 years old. They will compete in different categories, including a question-and-answer portion, to win the beauty title and wear the crown.
The pageant will be held anew at the Garapan Fishing Base on Feb. 17. Adaza said the reigning and first title holder, Ms. Pusong Pinoy 2012 Angelica Malasarte, is excited to pass on the crown to the next winner.
Docomo Pacific is once again sponsoring their Hearts Day treat to the island community, Adaza said.
The event will also feature food and non-food vendors and live presentations by individual and group performers.
“Vendors and performers who wish to be part of our event are welcome anytime,” she said, adding that Bayani Association president Olive Yana is taking the lead in the planning and preparation for next month's event.
Other major components of the Pusong Pinoy festivities include a health screening and the Panlasang Pinoy cooking competition open to amateur and professional cooks who will be required to prepare a Filipino dish.
According to Adaza, they are also coordinating with the Philippine Consulate in Guam to schedule their first mobile consular service on that day.
