Eight individuals were voted to the Northern Marianas Amateur Sports Association board of directors during the NMASA annual election held last week at the conference room of the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
Unanimously elected to the board were current NMASA president Michael White, canoe's Gil Birnbrich, golf's Jordon Kosam and Jess Wabol, baseball's Tony Rogolifoi and Rose Igitol, tennis' Jeff Race, and volunteer Emelinda Cabrera. White has scheduled a meeting for the board of directors this Thursday to select the officers of the group.
The many-time NMASA head added that the association's annual sports banquet will be held on Feb. 13 at Kanoa Resort. NMASA officials, top athletes of the month (from January to December 2012), former awardees, members of the CNMI Sports Hall of Fame, and sponsors of the various NMASA members are invited to the ceremony.
The NMASA Annual Sports Banquet will feature the induction of the CNMI Sports Hall of Fame, Class 2012, and the recognition of the TSL Foundation/NMASA Student Athletes of the Year, Male and Female Athletes of the Year, Coach of the Year, and Administrator of the Year.
Last year, tennis' Rafael Jones and athletics' Rachel Abrams took the student awards, while baseball's Joshua Jones and athletics' Yvonne Bennett clinched the adult plums. Rogoligoi and Igitol claimed the Coach of the Year and Administrator of the Year trophies, respectively, while Ben Saurez was enshrined to the CNMI Sports Hall of Fame. (Saipan Tribune)
