Amigo Golf Club's 2012 Ace of Aces champion Sherlyn Jones picked up where she left off, ruling the group's season-opening tournament held last Sunday at the Kingfisher Golf Links.
Despite some strong trade winds over the weekend, Jones turned in a raw 85, the third lowest gross score of the day, to claim the early lead in the 19-player field. She started the competition with 42 on the front nine and had a 43 on the back side to earn a net 67 after the handicap adjustment.
Jones' familiar rival, Doll Yamagishi, finished close behind in second place with a net 70. Yamagishi had a 47 and 46 on the front and back nines for a gross 93.
The club's newcomer Joseph Muna recorded the lowest gross with his 81 (44 and 37), but had to settle for third, as he wound up with a net 71.
Notably, Frank Sablan (net 75) finished as last Sunday's second lowest grosser with an 83, but clinched only the sixth spot (in the net category) behind fourth placer Dr. Larry Hocog (93 gross/74 net ) and Terry Attao (109 gross/74 net).
Other Amigo golfers who joined the season opener were John Matsumoto (94/75), Joe Tudela (88/75), Ben Jones Jr. (93/76), Manny Tenorio (90/76), John Guerrero (89/77), Syl Ada (87/77), Lorraine Babauta (93/77), Frank Guerrero (97/78), Ben Jones Sr. (92/78), Felix Sasamoto (105/86), and Danny Quitugua (101/87).
Meanwhile, the club announced that the second and final round of the January Ace tournament will be held on Jan. 27, also at Kingfisher, with a show time at 11:30am. Scores in the two rounds will be combined to determine the January Ace winner.
The group added it is still accepting members. There are over 20 Amigo members and men and women compete against each other in a handicap-based net scoring system.
