Tars Olopai grossed a 1-over-par 73 for a 64 net total to claim top qualifier honors as the Refaluwasch Golf Association Tournament kicked off the 2013 season opener last Jan. 12 at Coral Ocean Point Golf Resort.
Olopai penciled in a 39 on the front nine and finished strong on the back with a pair of birdies on holes 16 and 18 for a 34 and weaseled passed Ki Soo Kim after the handicap adjustments.
The couple was all square at the run, but Kim one-upped his rival on the back side for a field low gross score of 72, which left him also with a 64 net result though Olopai received the nod based on their net totals from the first half of the round.
Notably, Kim sunk birdies in holes No. 5, 9, 10, 14, and 16 and also took two closest to the pin prizes in holes No. 3 and 12.
L.J. Camacho rounded out the third spot with a 78 raw tally that was trimmed down to a 68 net total. He started out with a 36 with birdies in holes No. 3 and 9 and pulled into the clubhouse with a 42, and managed another couple birds on holes 16 and 18.
