Winners in Saipan Bowling Association’s 2012 season-ending roll-offs were awarded trophies and cash prizes last Sunday at the Shirley’s Coffee Shop in Susupe.
Simon Manacop received a championship trophy, one case of Budweiser, and $700 cash for topping the SBA/Budweiser King of the Lanes Tournament held on Jan. 13 at the Capital Bowling Center. Manacop prevailed in the stepladder finals against siblings Ruselle and Raymond Zapanta to defend the King of the Lanes title which he incidentally won against the Zapanta brothers in 2011.Ruselle settled for a trophy and $350, while Raymond also took home a trophy and $200.
Besides the Top 3 finishes in the King of the Lanes, SBA officials Ross and Gigi Zapanta also handed prizes to the 11 other bowlers who joined the association’s year-end competition. Fourth finisher Raphael Zapanta pocketed $100 and a dinner certificate for two at World Café, while No. 5 Kim Jae Yong and Robert Talavera were awarded $70 and $40, respectively, plus lunch buffet certificate for two at Isla Café.
Percy Omechelang got $40 worth of Cosmos certificate for placing seventh, while eighth and ninth placers Jorge Soledad and Paul Pangelinan took home a dinner buffet certificate for two at Isla Café and $25 worth of D&Q gift certificate, respectively. Edward Baluyan, Raul Dumapit, Jerry Kaneshi, Lee Yong Woon, Tony Yarobwemal, and Ronal Batac each received a lunch buffet certificate for one at Isla Café.
For the Queen of the Lanes competition, all 11 bowlers were given prizes with champion Diane Camacho getting the biggest slice in the prize pie with her $300. Runner-up Yho Villavicencio and Tess Fabie pocketed $150 and $100, respectively and the Top 3 finishers also received trophies.
Fourth placer Carol McKenzie earned $70, while Elena Soll was given $40. Gift certificates from D&Q, Cosmos, and Isla Café were then distributed to qualifiers Cora Muna, Gloria Omechelang, Carrie Camacho, Gigi Zapanta, Lala Taitano, and Diane Chong.
In the Fiji Water Prince of the Lanes, the $160 top purse went to champion M.J. Aldan, while runners-up Ryan Batac and Marcel McKenzie settled for $80 and $40, respectively.
Meanwhile, SBA also handed out special prizes to the youth, male, and female bowlers who joined the most tournaments in 2012. The husband-and-wife tandem of Percy and Gloria Omechelang took home an overnight stay for two with breakfast certificate at Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan for participating in the 20 and 19 competitions, respectively. Ryan Batac prevailed in the youth division and also won an overnight stay certificate at Kanoa Resort for playing in all 12 monthly contests.
