Farewell golf tourney, Pacific Games tryout

Veteran golfer Jess Wabol is organizing a farewell tournament for former CNMI Team member Adam Hardwicke and a series of qualifying competitions for the 2012 Pacific Games.

Wabol said the send-off tournament for Hardwicke is set for this Sunday at Coral Ocean Point. Tee off will be at 12pm and a potluck party will follow at Finasisu. Refauwasch Golfers Association members and other Saipan players who competed with and against Hardwicke are encouraged to join the farewell tournament. Hardwicke, who donned the CNMI colors in the 2011 Pacific Games in New Caledonia, is leaving Saipan for Malaysia after serving at the Public Defenders Office for seven years.

In related golf news, Wabol said tryouts for the CNMI Team that will compete in the 2015 Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea will start next month.

He said they have to kick of the selection process early to get as many players for pool. Wabol added they are looking for young golfers to lead the CNMI Team and fundraising efforts will also start early, as it will be tough to rely on the government for funding for the PNG trip.
