Northern Marianas Athletics is introducing a new program this season.
Dubbed as “Taga Kids Athletics,” the program is for children in the 5 to 12 age group and will kick off with a registration and camp at the Oleai Sports Complex. Registration will run from Jan. 28 to Feb. 1, from 4pm to 6pm, while a four-week camp will follow with the dates to be announced later. Entry fee is only $15 and interested participants will be admitted to the camp for free during the first week of the session.
“The month-long camp focuses on teaching kids movement skills through situations and games using 'guided discovery' while keeping it all fun,” said NMA vice president Elias Rangamar, who will lead the camp and will be assisted by other athletics officials.
Rangamar is the CNMI national coach and holds a Level 5 academy coaching certificate from the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).
“Athletes will also be introduced to the team concept of athletics. The program's daily themed workouts include skills challenges and obstacle courses where kids will learn to run, throw, jump, climb, push, pull, and much more while learning the values of team play and sportsmanship throughout all activities,” Rangamar added.
The Level 5 academy coach also said they are offering a free camp for one week to give the participants the chance to decide whether to continue with the program. The camp will be held every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
Meanwhile, registration for NMA's junior national and national levels will also run from Jan. 28 to Feb. 1. The junior national group is for athletes in the 12 to 15 age group, while the National level is for athletes in the 16-and-above division. Annual membership fee for the program is only $25.
