Two in a row for Adobo, Sexy Boys

An Adobo player goes for a finger roll during their debut game against Morales in Division B of the DLX/Anchor Strong caging last week at the Gualo Rai Basketball Court. (Saipan Tribune) Adobo and the Sexy Boys remained undefeated in Division B of the DLX/Anchor Strong Invitational Basketball League after notching contrasting wins over the weekend at the Gualo Rai Basketball Court.

In the second game last Friday, the Sexy Boys outclassed JWS, 64-60, to improve to a 2-0 record, while in last Saturday's curtain-raiser, Adobo clobbered LD Prime, 101-75, to match the former's immaculate mark and grab a share of the lead in the eight-team Division B.

Adobo had a 31-point explosion in the second quarter to recover from a slow start and then pulled away in the fourth with another 30-plus production.

Shane Deleon Guerrero had 9 points in the second-frame rally, while four of his teammates scored at least two baskets apiece to turn a 17-21 deficit to a 48-37 halftime advantage.

Christopher Camacho missed the first half for Adobo, but showed up in the third and canned three triples and logged 11 points in that period alone to keep the team's double-digit lead intact, 74-61, entering the final canto.

Guerrero and James Dela Cruz finished what Camacho started in the second half, nailing 10 points apiece in Adobo's 35-point eruption.

LD Prime faded away in the fourth, as only Carl Aldan recorded more than one field goal for the squad in the payoff canto. Aldan had 12 of LD Prime's 14 points in the fourth, while Kenneth Quemado and Lester Lapuz chipped in 2 each in the squad's third loss in as many games.

In last Friday's second match, the Sexy Boys also had to pull off a come-from-behind win to retain its perfect record.

The Sexy Boys trailed after the first canto, 11-20, as JWS played a balance offense to take early control of the match.

John Larot made in a one-point game at the break, 30-31, after scoring 8 of his game-high 14 in the second period and the Sexy Boys went on to steal the driver's seat in the third, 44-42, off Aryan Daria's basket.

It was a back-and-forth tiff in the fourth quarter, but the Sexy Boys showed poise in the end with James Sablan drilling a big trey and Dax Tinio nailing two crucial free throws to escape with the 4-point win.
