Tiebreaking games will be played this week at the Marianas High School Gymnasium to determine the playoff cast in the 2012-2013 Rocball Fall League.
League organizer James Feger said after nine rounds in the regular season, Veterans and Smack Dat are in a deadlock for firth place with their similar 8-1 records, while the Teachers and Nets are also in standoff for fourth to fifth place with their 5-4 slates.
Only the Top 4 teams will advance to the playoffs and with the Veterans and Smack Dat assured of the Top 2 spots and the Jumper (7-2) getting the third playoff ticket, the Teachers and Nets have to duel for the last seat to the next round this Friday at 1pm. The loser of the do-or-die match will join the eliminated Umi, Zumi, Geeks, Orioles, and the Fat Boys.
Smack Day and the Veterans will also have their own tiebreaker match this Thursday to determine the top seed in the playoffs.
The top-ranked squad in the playoffs will be paired against the No. 4 team in a best-of-three semis series, which will start next week. The No. 2 and 3 finishers will square off in a separate best-of-three semis showdown.
The Nets forced a rubber match for the last semis berth after pulling off an upset versus Smack Dat in their double overtime game in Round 8 last week. Smack Dat went on to recover from its lone loss in the regular season after slipping past the Veterans in another double overtime match last week. John Santy delivered the killer blow for Smack Dat in the second o-kon (Rocball term for overtime) when he knocked in a goal. In Rocball rules, the first team to make 6 points or score a goal in overtime wins the match.
