Jones claims Amigo's January Ace

Amigo Golf Club concluded its January Ace of the Month tournament last Sunday at the Kingfisher Golf Links with Sherlyn Jones prevailing in the 18-player field.

Last weekend's round began with players making adjustments for a chance to catch up with Jones, the qualifying leader after posting a net 67 in the first round. However, Jones was not about to relinquish her lead and goal of becoming the first player to earn a spot on the Ace of the Aces year-end tournament. She duplicated her qualifying gross score of 85 and with her 18 handicap, she posted another 67 for an impressive two-round score of 134. Jones had a 46 on the front and 39 on the back in last Sunday's finale.

Diding Hocog and Frank Sablan came in a distant second, as they logged identical net scores of 142 in the two rounds. Hocog turned in a 49 and 44 on the front and back for a gross 93 last Sunday. She had a 24 handicap to gain a net 69, which was added to her net 67 in the qualifier. Sablan started slow on the front nine with his 44, but was all business at the back with his 2-under par 34 for a gross 78 and net 67 after deducting his 8 handicap. He had a net 75 in the qualifier to end up still eight strokes behind Jones.

Completing the Top 3 was Frank Guerrero, who had a gross 86 (45 and 41 on the front and back nines) and 19 handicap for a net 67 in last Sunday's round. He had a net 78 in the qualifier, giving him a two-round total of 145.

Other Amigo members who joined the January Ace tournaments, with their two-round net scores in parenthesis, were John Guerrero (146), Terry Attao (148), Lorraine Babauta (148), Joseph Muna (148), Joe Tudela (149), Larry Hocog (150), Felix Sasamoto (151), Ben Jones Sr. (152), Ben Jones Jr. (156), Syl Ada (159), Danny Quitugua (160), and John Tenorio (170),

Meanwhile, the club's February qualifying tournament will be held next Sunday at Kingfisher. (PR)
