Northern Marianas Amateur Sports Association is inviting members of the CNMI Sports Hall of Fame or a representative of a deceased inductee to the elite class to attend the 2012 NMASA Annual Sports Banquet.
The annual awards ceremony will be held on Feb. 13 at Kanoa Resort, starting at 6pm.
Swimming's Bill and Jean Sakovich and Mike Villlagomez and baseball's Tony Rogolifoi were the first members of the prestigious group as they were inducted in 2004. Other inductees were the late Irene Alpet, Tony Satur, Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios, Kurt Barnes, Cecilia Lisua, Jose Tenorio Sablan, Ricardo Duenas, Antonio Benavente, Jess Wabol, Frank Castro, Jeff Race, Tino Olopai, and Ben Saures.
Besides the members of the CNMI Hall of Fame, the NMASA Banquet is also open to the top athletes (adult and student male and female) from January to December 2012, officials of the various NMASA members and sponsors of the local sports groups in the CNMI.
In next week's ceremony, NMASA will hand awards to the 2012 Male and Female Athletes of the Year and the NMASA/Tan Siu Lin Foundation Student Athlete of the Year. The group will also recognize the Coach of the Year and Sports Administrator of the Year.
Winners of these coveted awards were selected last month during the NMASA's first meeting for the 2013 season. All the monthly awardees for 2012 were automatically nominated for the season-ending plums. Non-monthly winners were also allowed in the selection, provided they were nominated by NMASA members.
