Registration for the 8th Saipan Marathon on March 2, 2013, has been extended an extra day to 5pm on Feb. 8, 2013. Organizations interested in volunteering for aid stations and other assignments are also being sought.
Registration for the 50-kilometer and marathon is $65 for U.S. and CNMI participants (proof of residency required). The cost is $55 for half marathon and 10K participants.
According to the Marianas Visitors Authority, nearly 500 international runners have already registered for the event. The event will include a full marathon of 26.2 miles (42.195K), a half marathon of 13.1 miles (20.96K), a 10K run (6.2 miles), and an ultra-50K (31.06 miles).
“We're working to make the 8th Saipan Marathon the best, yet, and we're in need of more volunteers to help accomplish that,” said MVA Community Projects manager Martin Duenas. “Organizations, junior high or high school clubs, or even families interested in making tourism their business can call our office about volunteering on event day.”
Registration forms are available on the events calendar at www.mymarianas.com under the event date or at the MVA office on Beach Rd., San Jose. Registration will include the awards banquet, a finishers T-shirt, and a certificate of completion.
The start will take place at the American Memorial Park at 4:30am for the 50K and the Marathon at 5:45am for the half marathon, and at 6am for the 10K.
