A mother allegedly stabbed more than once her 2-month-old baby at their home on Saipan Saturday night, Saipan Tribune learned yesterday.
Sources disclosed that the baby, a boy, survived with a stab wound in the abdomen and a laceration in the neck.
The father accompanied his child in an ambulance that took them to the Commonwealth Health Center.
The baby underwent successful operation at CHC's intensive care unit. He was later taken to the hospital's pediatric ward.
It was not clear yet whether the mother had been arrested. The motive behind the stabbing has also not been determined yet.
Sources said authorities are looking into the possibility that the mother was suffering from postpartum depression, a type of clinical depression that affects women typically just after giving birth.
The Department of Public Safety is expected to release information to the public about the incident today, Monday.
