For the first time in CNMI history, the House of Representatives impeached Gov. Benigno R. Fitial on a felony charge related to the unauthorized release of a federal inmate to massage the governor at his private residence in January 2010.
The vote was 16-4, more than the required two-thirds or 14 affirmative votes. The result was read at 12:15pm.
Seventeen more articles of impeachment will be voted on this afternoon.
