All community members are invited to the Health Fair on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, from 8am to 3pm at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center. The purpose of the Health Fair is to increase awareness about healthy lifestyle habits and practices.

The Health Fair activities will run from 8am until 3pm, but will also feature a 5K Walk starting at 6:30am. Registration for the 5K Walk will be from 6:30am to 7:30am, and there will be incentives for participants while supplies last. Entrance to the Health Fair and the 5K Walk is free.

There will also be various presentations and fitness classes from organizations like the Cooperative Research Extension and Educational Services' Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program, GetFit CNMI, and Trench Tech. The American Red Cross will also demonstrate CPR techniques, and the event will also feature a lecture on Hansen's disease by Dr. Daniel Lamar.

Participants may also purchase one-dollar raffle tickets for a chance to win prizes like dental exams from Seventh-Day Adventist Clinic, eye exams from Marianas Eye Institute and gift certificates from Tropical Blends and other companies. Funds raised will be donated to the NMC's Nursing Club to purchase lancets and other supplies used for community service projects.

Members in the community can also learn about the various health service programs including the Women, Infants, and Children program, which provides nutritional assistance to women and children under the age of 5.

Interested community members and businesses are encourage to donate used dresses, tuxedos, shoes, accessories, and bags to the Northern Marianas Coalition Against Domestic & Sexual Violence's Project PROM during the Health Fair.

“Our goal for this Health Fair is to increase awareness and the importance of living a healthier lifestyle by eating the right types of food and becoming more physically active,” said NMC Nursing Club president Carina Train. “This is also a wonderful opportunity to expose yourself and your children to the different resources available in the CNMI.”
