The Joeten-Kiyu Public Library recently held a successful Read Aloud & Craft featuring a guest reader from the Coastal Resources Management.
Nicole Schafer, CRM education and outreach coordinator, read books to library patrons for the month of February, said JKPL Children's Associate Erlinda Naputi.
Naputi disclosed that last Feb. 2, close to 40 kids listened to Schafer read Starfish by Edith Hurd and Seashore by Lucy Beckett-Browann.
The ages of the listeners ranged from as young as 11 months up to fifth graders.
Naputi said the youngest participant was a first-timer and was accompanied by the grandmother.
Naputi said that Schafer's involvement in the library's program is a result of an important partnership between JKPL and CRM.
“CRM aims to raise awareness about our coastal ecosystem and we at the public library are happy to collaborate with them in educating our community about that while promoting literacy at the same time,” she told Saipan Tribune.
Naputi said that the participants of Read Aloud & Craft, after listening to stories, would take part in art activities at the library to better understand the books that were read.
Read Aloud & Craft is one of the many continuing programs at JKPL. For more information, visit the library in Susupe or call 235-7316/22/23 or fax 235-7550.
