Co-owner and manager Theodore R. Parker presented a $1,000 check to 2013 MMAC Committee overall chair Manny Borja, luminary committee co-chair Krizia Mendoza, public relations committee chair Christopher A. Concepcion, and accounting and registration committee co-chair Atdao Rosario during a ceremony on Feb. 7.

The donation makes Brabu Pharmacy a major sponsor for this year's event, slated for April 26 to 27 from 6pm to 6am at the Hopwood Jr. High School Field in Chalan Piao.

Major sponsorship is bestowed on companies, organizations or individuals that donate $1,000 to $2,999 in cash, products/services.

Parker said they're pleased to support the cause this year and the donation is one of their ways to give back to the community.

“The community has been very generous in supporting us and we like to give back. Over the last couple of years, we've formed a very good relationship with Commonwealth Cancer Association. The timing was right this year,” he said.

While the corporate donation is a first, Parker disclosed that he has been a long-time supporter of the MMAC, CCA's signature annual fundraiser, on a personal level.

“I support it through luminaries,” said Parker, referring to the lit candles placed inside white bags bearing the names of family members touched by cancer. “I have several family members [who] have passed away because of cancer, including my mother and grandmother.”

He noted, though, that Brabu Pharmacy will not have a participating team this year “but that doesn't necessarily mean we won't have one next year.”

He encouraged the community to support the Marianas March, to remember not just those who have passed away due to cancer but especially those who have survived the fatal disease.

“I think it's a great event and it does a lot of wonders for the community. Supporting our survivors is very important. Let us show to them the strength of the entire community,” said Parker.

Overall committee chair Borja expressed appreciation for Brabu Pharmacy's support in the fight against cancer.

“Their donation will be used for cancer awareness programs and cancer patient support services in the CNMI so we are grateful for their contribution to this great cause,” he said.
