With a New Year, renewed spirit, and resolution, the Saipan Golfers Association members enthusiastically met at the Marianas Country Club to begin the new year with a clean slate and to compete for the 2013 January Ace of the Month Tournament title.
After trying hard in 2012, SGA treasurer Ed Sablan challenged the natural elements-wind and rain-and finally made a breakthrough and single-handedly clinched the January title.
Sablan had a net score of 75, with Norman Tenorio and John “Nani” Cruz tied for second with a net score of 76. Through the traditional score card playoff, Tenorio placed second and Cruz third.
At the awards banquet at Mariano Fajardo's residence, the Top 3 players for the month were recognized along with the winners for the closest to the pin: James Nelson took hole No. 6, Jess Castro hole No.16, Nick Sablan holes No. 8 and 12 as well as the longest drive for hole No. 7.
Juan Lizama, meanwhile, took the other longest drive in hole No. 11. An election was conducted for the president afterwards.
The golf club is happy to announce its new president, Eun Jung Teack, a longtime SGA member and former board of director. Greg Sablan is the new vice president, the other officers remained the same: Ed Sablan as treasurer; Frances Sablan as secretary, Nick Sablan as tournament director, Ed Manibusan as handicap director, and Steve Balakrishna as solicitation chairman.
