Shirley's FC kicked off its campaign in the girls U15 division of the 2013 NMIFA Spring Youth League with an emphatic 3-0 victory over MP United last Saturday at the Hopwood Junior High School Field.
With both teams coming off a break for more than two months, Shirley's and MP United struggled in the first half, failing to light up the scoreboard. Then in the second half, Shirley's found its form to start the season on a winning note.
Elaine Enriquez and Diana Maniacop delivered one goal apiece for Shirley's, while Diane Pablo also made it to the scoreboard off a penalty kick.
The Shirley's-MP United tiff was one of the two girls U15 matches played in the season-opening of the youth league, but results of the Matansa and Paire game were unavailable at press time.
The season will continue this Saturday with Shirley's going for its second straight win against Paire at 4pm or after Tan Holdings FC-MP United duel at 2:30pm. Matansa drew a bye in Week 2.
In other Week 1 results, MP United and Tan Holdings prevailed in their boys U15 and U18 games, respectively.
MP United blanked Shirley's FC, 2-0, last Saturday at the Oleai Sports Complex.
Sun Joon Tenorio drew first blood for MP United, scoring in the fifth minute, while Daniel Lim logged the other goal in the 63rd.
In the other boys U15 match, Matansa was scheduled to square off against Paire last Friday, also at the Oleai pitch, but results of the game were unavailable at press time.
In the lone boys U18 tiff played at the Oleai pitch last Saturday, Tan Holdings dominated Paire, 4-1. Sean Perez had a hat-trick for Tan Holdings and Dan Deric Ibarra contributed one goal.
Perez scored his first goals of the season in the 20th minute to put Tan Holdings in the lead. Then Paire briefly tied the match off Seiya Eda's goal in the 28th before Perez got her second goal five minutes later to put Tan Holdings back in the driver's seat at halftime.
In the second half, Ibarra opened Tan Holdings' offense with his goal in the 51st minute, while Perez made it a 4-1 advantage with a penalty shot 13 minutes later.
Only three teams are playing in the boys U18 with MP United joining the field and having its first game of the season this Saturday against Tan Holdings. The MP United-Tan Holdings tussle will be played at the Hopwood pitch at 11am.
