MIFICPA to host tax seminar

The Marianas Institute of Filipino CPAs and Accountants will be hosting its first tax seminar for 2013. “Tax Updates 2013” is slated for March 2, Saturday, from 1pm to 5pm at the Charley's Cabaret of Pacific Islands Club.

The seminar will feature David J. Burger, CPA and director for Burger & Comer, PC Certified Public Accountants, who will discuss FICA tax issues, differentiate the types of corporation, changes in tax laws, residency requirements, income within and without, income distribution-treatment, and trust discussion, among other topics.

Registration begins at 12:30pm, with a $20 fee for MIFICPA members, which is inclusive of the $5 membership renewal. Non-members and non-accountants are also welcome to participate for also $20, inclusive of light snacks and a certificate of participation.

MIFICPA president Noli O. Santos said yesterday that they annually host a tax seminar weeks ahead of the due dates set by the Division of Revenue & Taxation to assist accountants and non-accountants in their tax filing and update them about any changes in tax laws.

“It is important because as accountants, we should be aware or update ourselves especially when there's new changes in tax laws,” Santos told Saipan Tribune.

Santos also noted that taking part in these seminars help accountants and non-accountants in their professional development.

According to Santos, their group has yet to decide whether to offer further seminars.

“We will let them know. But for now, our focus is to have a tax seminar that will assist the public in their tax filing,” he added.

Santos encouraged interested participants to email their questions in advance to facilitate the question-and-answer segment of the seminar. All questions would be addressed by the speaker at the event.
