Rodney Catalla and Paul Salalila came away the winners of the Saipan Radio Control Racers' 2013 February races held last Feb. 10 at the club track in As Lito.
Catalla swept the A-main 1/10 electric short course class over Jude Dickenson and Paul Salalila.
His HPI Blitz stock truck took the pole in the qualifying heats and showed its brass in the main event with a wire to wire win.
Catalla maintained a 27:27-second average per lap with his best lap (7) clocked at 26:42 seconds and completed the 12-lap race in 5:27:29.
Dickinson (5:41:30) settled for runner up honors in front of Salalila (5:41:53) after a dogfight for second; both rivals drove TraXXas Slash trucks.
Notably, Jojo Saracho led the opening lap in the mix, but was forced to pull out of the race just three laps later.
Salalila fared batter in the Open division 1/10 electric short course event with his Kyosho Ultima SC-R truck. According to those in attendance, Salalila exhibited a very strong run and never looked back after securing the lead on the second lap.
He went on to lead the remaining 11 laps by maintaining a rotation average of 29:58 seconds to take the checkered flag in 5:54:99; his best lap (4) was clocked at 29:14-seconds.
In the end, Dickinson played the role of bridesmaid once again, this time with his Kyosho Ultima SC-R, while top qualifier Saracho finished third in his Team Durango DSCR410R truck.
The pair was not too far off Salalila's pace, but were too tangled up in dealing with each other to catch him and came in at, 6:01:84 and 6:05:57, respectively; Catalla (6:25:55) finished fourth.
SRCR's B-Main stock and Young Gun results were not provided.
The SRCR has over 20 active members, and growing, which regularly take part in practices every Sunday in As Lito.
The group tries to hold a daylong monthly event in their four racing categories. The public is welcome to check out the track and learn more about the hobby.
